Kalinka in Oudtshoorn - a shrine of gastronomy! Sopie Lindop
Meet Olga... My new friend and chef at Kalinka in Oudtshoorn....Click here to view complete article...
EAT OUT SA says:
Food | The menu is intriguing, with the likes of mussels in
herbed coconut broth and caviar
pancakes, alongside ostrich and
lamb specialities. Try the African
trio (gemsbok, kudu and ostrich)
served on polenta and ratatouille
with a brandy and mustard sauce.
Finish with the hedonistic Amarula
crème brûlée or chocolate fondant.
Wine | Preference is given to local wines of the region, with some further flung choices on offer.
Service | The service is delightful, friendly and unobtrusive.
Ambience | Victorian spaciousness and proportion add to the cosy parlour feel of the separate rooms in this converted sandstone house.
And… | The interesting menu will delight the senses. (JF)

Hilversum, The Netherlands, Dec 2009 "On recommendation of our tour guide,
my father and I decided to visit Kalinka.
It was our first à la carte restaurant in 2 weeks. The service, food, drinks, friendliness and athmosphere were all OUTSTANDING.
If Kalinka was located in The Netherlands,
I would definitely be a regular customer.
It was a shame that we stayed in Oudtshoorn for just one night."

"On a trip from Cape Town to PE, I tried to find a restaurant in Oudtshoorn and decided to go to Kalinka, and...what a surprise!
From the setting (very nice rooms, with modern and russian influences), to the menu (fusion between classic French, South African and Russian!), we greatly enjoyed our night.
Service was very good.
Great experience though, from the ostrich tartare to trio of game!
Won't miss it on my next travels!"

"Last night I've experienced something new, an extraordinary meal at Kalinka Cuisine Restaurant. To say that both the meal and it's maker challenged my preconceptions about fine cooking is a gross understatement. They have rocked me to my core! It is difficult to imagine more humble origins than those of the genius now cooking at Kalinka's, who is in my opinion nothing less than the finest chef in South Africa!"

"We went there on recommendation and we were pleasantly surprised in the friendly and relaxed manner we were treated. The quality of the food was outstanding and there are a few extras we did not bargain on. Well done!"

"What a breath of fresh air, organic foods - without that label, and originality. Treat yourself to a pampered well loved meal, or just visit for a quiet sipping in the lovely bar. Love this place, and wish it were not so far away as in Oudtshoorn, but that is also part of the charm. The trio of steak is unforgettable."
